Rick Purcell and his band, along with Sheri Richards as the lead vocalist did a fabulous job at our reception! They did a great job at mixing in old classics with current music so that the event was fun and fitting for every age group at the party. Sheri is wonderful and keeps everyone having fun, moving etc. The band learned a brand new song for our first dance, which was so much appreciated. Overall they did a fabulous job and we will definitely use them again in the future at other events that we're part of!

Like many people planning a wedding, we were considering using an ipod or a DJ for our reception. However, our parents were quite insistent that we should hire a band. After a long search for live wedding music in Pittsburgh, we lucked out by finding Rick Purcell's website. Most of the bands we had seen before were either a) ridiculously expensive or b) ridiculously cheesy. We wanted a band that could sing the songs that would get our guests out on the dance floor without being over-the-top. When we learned about Music by Rick Purcell, we went and watched Rick and Shari Richards perform at a restaurant to get a sense of their sound. We were very impressed. They mixed in classics from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s in with some more recent artists like Amy Winehouse and Duffy. The crowd at the restaurant was really into it, and they did a great job with between song banter. And Shari Richards' version of Landslide is truly something to behold.Shortly after we saw them play, I contacted Rick about playing at our outdoor wedding reception. Rick was very organized, helpful, easy to get in contact with, and easy to work with. We were able to hire a four piece band for a very affordable price, and they gave us a song list that we were able to go through for our event (the song list is a long one, but even so, there were several songs we asked about that they already knew how to play). They were also willing to learn new songs for our event as long as we requested them a month in advance. My dad had a special request for the father-daughter dance, and they learned it and pulled it off wonderfully. As for the performance at the wedding reception, it was fantastic! They included an excellent mix of songs that got everyone up and dancing. They were enthusiastic without being corny, and accommodated some guest requests on the fly. Many people approached me to say how much they appreciated the band. One older guest who was unable to dance told me that the music gave him an opportunity to serenade his wife! In the end, I'm very happy that we were able to have live music instead of a DJ or ipod reception. I am certain that the band was a major contributor to the success of our reception. My only regret is that the reception couldn't go on for longer-- we had to coax people off the dance floor at the end of the night! We highly recommend this band. Do yourself a favor and check them out for your Pittsburgh-area event.
